Catch the Spirit

Enjoy the fellowship of  Work Day!

Come with yourself, family, church group, or small group.

Spring Work Day is when we pull together and get a lot done...projects we can't get to during the normal flow of the year.

Mark your calendar to reserve the possibility of sharing in the workload.

2025 Projects

  1. Chainsaws and Wood Splitters
  2. Cut down trees that are marked.
  3. Section the wood from downed trees into firewood lengths.
  4. As trees are cut into firewood-lengths split into smaller logs for for campfires.
  5. Paint covered seating area near Poplar Lodge.
  6. Plant flowers around campus.
  7. Add a few landscape timbers to Johnson Lodge to remedy a rainwater flow issue.
  8. Hammer all the popped up nail heads sticking up at Johnson and Poplar Lodge.
  9. Clean gutters.
  10. Spray Round Up along the creek.
  11. Cut and burn small woody plants along the creek.
  12. Demolish the concrete pad that used to be the West side of Poplar Lodge.
  13. Complete the men's restroom at the Welcome Center.

The Bread and Butter of

Being "in the Black."

by Finley Knowles, Executive Director

To be in the black, is what every ministry plans for. The origin of referring to businesses being in the black or red comes from a time when accountants kept ledgers by hand. They used a black pen when recording profit and a red pen for losses. CGC is designed to operate in the black, and the driving force of which color pen we pick up is the number of groups who book with us.

As we head into our new year on March 1st, the number is 54. We go into the new year with 54 groups having already reserved their event in the 2025/26 year. What a blessing! These confirmed groups really help us plan.

Will you pray for our groups? In the monthly email prayer letter, a list of which groups are coming is right at the top. In the same way we ask you to pray for this ministry, we also ask you to pray for the dozens of group leaders who are planning a camp or retreat ministry. If you'd like to receive the prayer letter, click HERE. I would love to have you come alongside the other prayer warriors that receive the monthly email.

UPDATES ON CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION & REMODELING

Remodeled Youth Chapel

The Youth Chapel is almost ready for groups. All that remains is installing the HVAC and a good cleaning! We will debut this reclaimed venue at District Assembly April 24-25.

While the garage doors are aesthetically pleasing, their default position will be up to prevent damage in a future flood.

Proposed Dining Hall

The blueprints for the Dining Hall went to the State Fire Marshal on February 3. The Marshal had already seen preliminaries and indicated this should be a quick turnaround. (Well, we'll just see about that!)

New Lodging Space in Springfield

We passed our final electrical inspection!

We have some cosmetic items to complete, but we are cleared for occupancy! The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will our first group to use Springfield on February 7-9!

Become a member of the Ten Bucks a Month Club (TBAM). TBAM is the plan for servicing the debt incurred in the construction of the dining hall. We will have a $500K mortgage on a $2M building.

  • Thanking God for the privilege to serve the groups who are coming this month. We have a great facility, and we like it when it’s crawling with retreaters. We like it because it’s good stewardship, and we like it because it’s how God provides 96% of what it takes to operate the ministry.
  • Pray that the staff at CGC will continually find the joy of the Lord in their part in God’s ministry. It’s such a blessing to work at CGC.
  • We are facing a major septic system repair that could cost more than $20K. UPDATE – Since last month, the state has provided drawings for the repair. We are now reaching out to contractors who would like to make a bid.
  • We thank God that both the Youth Chapel and Springfield Cabin are ready for occupancy! So many little things had to come together to make this happen. Gratitude is our attitude!
  • Spring Work Day is set for Saturday, April 5. Let’s pray together that we will have a great response. One of the ways God meets our needs is through loyal volunteers. Pray for good weather on the 5th…or lots of indoor projects!
  • Continue to pray for the physical needs of Michael Gardner and Gary Rhodes. Therapy has gone well with Michael’s knee, and he’s raring to get back to work. Gary’s doctor is experimenting with changes in Gary’s diet that seem promising. Keep them in your prayers please.
  • Pray for participation in the Ten Bucks a Month Club. God can supply CGC’s needs through any means He chooses. TBAM is merely a tool to make people aware of the opportunity to help the ministry pay the mortgage on the new Dining Hall.
  • Speaking of the new Dining Hall, the blueprints are going to the Fire Marshal the first week of February. We are getting closer to breaking ground. Hallelujah!
  • Keep praying for our golf cart needs! We are now asking for one golf cart. A used golf cart is between $5K and $10K depending on what’s available on the market once we have the funds.

  • Pray that we match groups with vacancies on our calendar. Let’s pray that God will make group directors aware of all CGC has to offer. People would contact Lori Knowles to explore any of the dates below. loriknowles@midsouthnaz.org

March 14-16 is open for a couple of smaller groups.

            May 2-4 is completely open.

May 9-11 is Mother’s Day weekend, a hard weekend to fill.

August 15-17 we have cabin or dorm space for a group of

                  30-75.

            August 29-31 is completely open.

September 5-7 we can host a large group. The Tabernacle is

                  not being used this weekend.

October 24-26 would be great for a group of 30-50. Poplar

Lodge, cabins, and dorms are available for lodging.

            November 7-9 is completely open.

  • We have been praying for a long time to regain use of the Youth Chapel that was rendered unusable after the 8/2021 flash flood. Often, we must be persistent in faith to present our needs to God. God’s not a vending machine. So we’ve held on in prayer, and we are now very close to seeing the Youth Chapel back online. The contractor will be finishing the renovation in the next couple of weeks. Let’s thank God together for answered prayer! There will be pictures in the next CGC newsletter.
  • Health Prayer List – We continue to prayer for Gary Rhodes (Dir. of Facility Stewardship) and Michael Gardner, a member of the Facility Stewardship team. This month let’s pray for our CGC staff as they do the tasks of ministry in a season where viruses spike. Three of our on-campus staff have already weathered sickness, and three additional are currently in recovery mode.

PRAYER changes what we SEE...

and what we SEEK.

Each month CGC Chaplain Bob McKenzie shares a prayer letter.
