Merry Christmas!

When Jesus was born everything changed.

     What specifically?

                               Everything.

We appreciate donations for the ministry of CGC all year-round, but year-end gifts are very special!

  • If you want to make sure your donations are eligible to include in your 2024 taxes, make sure anything you send is postmarked or received by December 31, 2024.

  • CGC has the fewest groups from November through January. The lack of retreats during these months strains our cashflow, so we turn to a line of credit (loc) to pay our fixed expenses.
  • Year-end gifts minimize our need to borrow from our loc,
  • and if we don't have to borrow it, then we don't have to pay it back. We prefer not to spend new year budgeted funds on past expenses.
  • This means we can set aside funds during our busier months to be better prepared for the slow months...and eventually avoid the line of credit altogether.

Thank you for considering a donation during our slow season! It makes a big difference.

UPDATES ON CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION & REMODELING

Remodeled Youth Chapel

Should be Back Online by January, 2025.

The Youth Chapel has not been available since the flood of 2021, and we are relieved to see the remodeling that is almost complete. Since the Youth Chapel holds 220 people theatre-style, we had to turn groups away due to our lack of this meeting space. Now we are close to saying "YES!"

At 2023 Family Camp, an offering was received during the week earmarked for restoring this great facility. As always we are thankful for the donors who made this possible.

What's included in the remodel?

  • 6 garage doors dorm the two sides. This will enable us to keep the doors up when the building is not in use, allowing any potential flood waters flow through.
  • Original wood is replaced by new metal.
  • Two private restrooms are remodeled with fixtures and lighting.
  • New flood-resistant storage room.
  • The interior received new paint and wall panels.
  • 9' elevated platform for the HVAC unit. We are going to keep it out of flood water.

Azteca Construction (Gerardo and Fernando Arteaga) were hired to finish everything, and you're going to like what you see.

Proposed Dining Hall

Dining Hall Stats

  • First and foremost, the dining hall will be out of floodplain.
  • 10,365 sq. ft.
  • Seats up to 612 people when using the overflow room located on a lifted veranda. (Our current Dining Hall max capacity is 425.)
  • 5 private restrooms
  • Enlarged kitchen
  • Like our current dining hall, the new facility will have lots of windows so everyone can enjoy God's creation.

New Lodging Space in Springfield

We are awaiting our final electrical inspection.

Due to a failed electrical inspection, this project has been extended. It's great news to think we may have these 8 new galley-style bunk rooms available for our guests.

We have been working to get a final inspection for the last month. Our electrical engineer says it's perfect and that the inspection is more of a formality. But, indeed, it must be completed. These rooms are ready to go as soon as we get the completed inspection!

Floorplan for 8  Galley-style bunk Rooms

Capacity of 62.

Become a member of the Ten Bucks a Month Club (TBAM). TBAM is the plan for servicing the debt incurred in the construction of the dining hall. We will have a $500K mortgage on a $2M building.

  • We have been praying for a long time to regain use of the Youth Chapel that was rendered unusable after the 8/2021 flash flood. Often, we must be persistent in faith to present our needs to God. God’s not a vending machine. So we’ve held on in prayer, and we are now very close to seeing the Youth Chapel back online. The contractor will be finishing the renovation in the next couple of weeks. Let’s thank God together for answered prayer! There will be pictures in the next CGC newsletter.
  • Health Prayer List – We continue to prayer for Gary Rhodes (Dir. of Facility Stewardship) and Michael Gardner, a member of the Facility Stewardship team. This month let’s pray for our CGC staff as they do the tasks of ministry in a season where viruses spike. Three of our on-campus staff have already weathered sickness, and three additional are currently in recovery mode.
  • We thank God for answering prayer. About four months ago we asked you to pray that we would be introduced to groups who would come during the slower months of winter. God has blessed, and we’ve added several groups! During our slow time, we routinely borrow from a line of credit. The only bad thing about a line of credit is it must be paid back! As we add new groups to the calendar, that will slow our need to dip into the credit line.

  • I don’t pretend to know what’s going on with the 2 golf carts we’ve been praying for, but we are patiently waiting on God. He knows what we need better than we do.

  • Our Facilities Stewardship Team is close to finishing the new Springfield bunk house. Springfield will give us 59 additional beds in 8 renovated rooms. You may be amazed. Some groups make the decision to come to CGC when they hear we have 2 new bunk houses. Many of our regulars would come even if we didn’t renovate lodging space, but new groups considering CGC for the first time are keen to see new construction and remodeling.

Something that will be on our prayer list in perpetuity is TBAM (the Ten Bucks a Month Club). These special donors provide the basis for us to be able to do things like building a new dining hall and keeping up with places that need remodeling.

PRAYER changes what we SEE...

and what we SEEK.
